A 2007 view of the farm where Ken and Leslie Boswell live.

A 2007 view of the farm where Ken and Leslie Boswell live.

My family has farmed in the area since the late 1800s. My great grandmother was born in a sod house near Ong, Nebraska. The farm has not been passed from one generation to the next, till I bought and rented some of the ground my dad started farming in the 1950s. I am still renting one farm he first rented in 1966 and live on the farm he purchased in 1971. I had my separate farming operation starting in 1976, building it to 1,200 acres when my dad retired. I had a farrow to finish hog operation as well as a cow calf herd till 2001. Four years ago, I rented out everything I own, and reduced rented acres this last spring.
